Leading with Skillz is a leadership development coaching and training firm based out of Bellingham, Washington in the beautiful Pacific Northwest.

It was started in 2026 by me, Megan Skillman, aka Mega Skills, aka Skills to pay tha bills, aka Shorty, aka… moving on. I started Leading with Skillz with the purpose of supporting small business and frontline leaders as well as their teams by providing engaging, effective, and actionable leadership development coaching and training that is often unavailable to them.

Recent studies have found that leadership training can improve employee engagement by 20% and decrease employee turnover by 15%. Yet, 40% of managers feel burned out daily and only 27% report feeling engaged in their work. This is mostly due to a common leadership challenge referred to as the “mid-manager squeeze”, or the pressure to meet high-level strategy while leading frontline teams.  

The issue of accessibility to effective leadership training for frontline managers and small business owners can be difficult to address when resources and funding are limited. This is where Leading with Skillz can help! Businesses that invest in leadership development often see a 25% boost to business outcomes.

I began studying human behavior, including leadership, in high school. I went on to earn my B.A. in General Psychology from Central Washington University (go Wildcats!) and my Masters in Secondary Education from Grand Canyon University (go Lopes!). Over the last 20 years, I have built a career that blends my passions for psychology, business, leadership, and education in a way that has given me the opportunity to teach other leaders how to build better relationships, improve performance, clarify communication, and do all of this with humility.
